My walk to work these past few weeks has been entirely too hot.
This summer has been a double-infused black cherry chocolate icecream sandwich of awesome, but I'm starting to remember why, in my heart of hearts, I am an autumn person.
You know the feeling. Suspicion that the high days of summer have stretched on too long. When you edge dangerously close to finishing that second tube of sunscreen. Nostalgia for warm food, fresh air, and cozy clothes.
I'm not quite there-- I plan on sucking up as much summer as is humanly possible over the next month -- but I feel it sneaking up on me.
In honour of the season, here's a track from Wilco's 1999 release, Summerteeth (the first Wilco album I ever purchased). Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again) is an upbeat and playful thing that teases with its country twang, all topped by the shaking and emotional vocal stylings of Jeff Tweedy.
For the next few months I'll continue to enjoy the smell of aloe on my skin and the intense brilliance of the sun... all from my air conditioned office window, of course.
Summer's slipping past you. Make the most of it.
